The municipality of Estepona is almost entirely dominated by the majestic Sierra Bermeja, where the natural park of Los Reales de Sierra Bermeja is located. This town's rural character is reflected in the San Isidro Labrador fiestas (15 May). In the first week of July the fiestas of the patron saint of the village are held both at the fairgrounds and in the town centre, and a few days later (16 July), the residents of Estepona worship the Virgen del Carmen with a moving sea procession, a tradition that can be found all along the coast of the province of Málaga.
The eighteenth-century Virgen de los Remedios church in the town centre is not to be missed. Its interior consists of three naves covered by vaults with a dome over the transept, and on the façade, you can admire a beautiful stone portal.
Also worth seeing is the Torre del Reloj, which was part of an old parish church that was erected at the end of the 15th century. The 15th century walls of the Castillo (castle) and the ruins of the Castillo el Nicio (El Nicio castle) in El Padrón are worth mentioning from an historical point of view even if there is little of the original structures remaining. There are also some impressive stately homes or palaces dating from the eighteenth century, such as the Marquis of Mondéjar' s house or the Casa de la Borrega (La Borrega House).
Along the coast, stretching along both sides of Estepona, you will be able to observe a series of watchtowers built between the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries that were erected to defend against the attacks of the barbarian pirates which were so frequent in those times. There are seven of Muslim and Castilian origin. They are all located on the coastline and extend for 21 kilometres.
